Alaska's Rich to step in as USCA president
(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) - Leland Rich, Fairbanks, Alaska, was elected Monday as president of the United States Curling Association (USCA) to serve out the remainder of President Chris Moore's one-year term. Moore was diagnosed with cancer in January 2008 and resigned from office earlier this month in order to focus his energy on defeating this illness.
Moore has served on the USCA Board of Directors for many years representing the Great Lakes region and was the association's vice president of competitive programs as well as secretary/treasurer. He remains on the board as a regional representative. More information about Moore's battle with cancer can be found at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/rchrismoore.
Rich, who served as the association's president from 1999-2000, currently holds a seat on the USCA Board as Alaska's representative. In addition, he is one of four representatives to the World Curling Federation.
Rich began his curling career in 1970 in Fairbanks and continues to curl in local bonspiels as well as the U.S. Senior National Championships annually. He has been a volunteer coach at the junior curling level for many years. He owns and operates ECS Computer Systems in Fairbanks.
