The 2002 Olympians: Where are they now? (USA Curling)

 

MEN:

  • Tim Somerville (skip, 1998, 2002 Team; Roseville, Minn.) last competed at the 2003 U.S. National Championships.
  • Mike Schneeberger (vice skip, 2002 Team; Delano, Minn.) last competed at the 2003 U.S. National Championships.
  • Myles Brundidge (second, 1998, 2002 Team; Nekoosa, Wis.) retired from curling and continues to work at the paper mill in his hometown.
  • John Gordon (lead, 1998, 2002 Team; Columbia Heights, Minn.) is now focusing on coaching, most recently for his son Michael’s team at the 2004 U.S. National Championships.
  • Don Barcome Jr. (fifth player, 2002 Team; Grand Forks, N.D.) continues to curl competitively as skip of his own team. He had tongue cancer in 2004, but is recovering quickly and enjoying being back on the ice.

 

WOMEN:

  • Kari Erickson (skip, 2002 Team; Bemidji, Minn.) continues to work as a teacher and retired from competitive curling after the 2002 Olympics.
  • Debbie McCormick (vice skip, 2002 Team; Rio, Wis.) now skips her own team and won the 2003 world and national titles. She is employed with The Home Depot through the Olympic Job Opportunities Program. She is competing at the 2006 U.S. Olympic Trials.
  • Stacey (Liapis) Fuchsgruber (second, 2002 Team, fifth 1998 Team; Chicago) got married shortly after the Olympic Games and gave birth to a baby in 2003. She has retired from competitive curling.
  • Ann Swisshelm Silver (lead, 2002 Team, Chicago) now plays second on Debbie McCormick’s rink. Ann married Sean Silver shortly after the 2002 Olympic Games. She is competing with Debbie McCormick at the 2006 Olympic Trials.
  • Joni Cotten (fifth, 2002 Team, Mount Prospect, Ill.) also now coaches the Debbie McCormick rink. She was named USCA Coach of the Year in 2003. Cotten works as a landscape designer.
