Universal Sports to air 12 hours live from Olympic Trials

Universal Sports to air 12 hours live from 2010 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling

 

(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) - Universal Sports will be airing 12 hours of live coverage of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling.

 

The live coverage begins with the playoffs on Friday, Feb. 27, from the Broomfield Events Center in Broomfield, Colo. The planned coverage includes the men's and women's semifinals on Friday as well as the men's and women's championship games on Saturday, Feb. 28.

 

Coverage on Universal Sports:  Universal Sports' 24-hour t.v. network, available in 30 million homes, will present live coverage starting on Friday, Feb. 27 (all times ET):

2/27 - 6-9 p.m.- Women's Page Playoff semifinal
2/27 - 10 p.m.- 1 a.m. - Men's Page Playoff semifinal
2/28 - 12-3 p.m.- Women's final
2/28 - 5-8 p.m. - Men's final

 

Each event also will be streamed on UniversalSports.com.

 

"We are thrilled to have NBC Universal carrying live game coverage of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling," said Rick Patzke, chief operating officer for USA Curling. "This will mark the first time there will be extensive live, full-game coverage of curling in the United States outside of the Olympics. This is something our fans have been clamoring for, and we hope that it will mean even more coverage in the future."

 

Universal Sports, formerly World Championship Sports Network (WCSN), is a joint venture between NBC Sports and InterMedia Partners. It serves as the preeminent multiplatform destination for Olympic and lifestyle sports programming.

 

The winning teams will be nominated to the U.S. Olympic Committee to represent the USA at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

 

Curling's exposure on NBC's networks during the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy, greatly contributed to the upward growth of the sport in the United States. Since Torino, NBC has partnered with USA Curling on the Korbel Celebrity Challenge in 2006, the Korbel Elite Curling Challenge in 2007, and also web streaming of world championship events in 2007 and 2008.
