From bulls to brooms, curling comes to life in Texas

History: “The club formed during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games via the Internet, news groups and a big push from a local radio personality,” Villegas said. An organizational meeting was held in March 2002 and 40 members signed up. League play began at the club on Oct. 27, 2002.

What is unique about your club? “Texas!” Villegas said. “Also, we have an arena staff that assists us greatly in making the ice, which allows us to curl on 21-23 second ice … pretty good for an arena in Texas.”
Major events: The club holds one open house and bonspiel each season.
How often can members curl? Twice a week.
Types of programs: Men’s and women’s. The club also offers an instructional program.
