Curls out of: Houston Curling Club
Curling start: "I watched my parents
curl for years in Wausau, but my school had no youth curling program. I
moved to Houston for college and then a job. We discovered curling via the
U.S. Curling News and to our great surprise there was a newly-formed club in
Houston and I joined it. My entire curling career -- now 24 years -- has
been in Houston."
Favorite aspect of curling: "The
Spirit of Curling -- a fantastic antidote to the 'in your face' approach now
common in too many other sports."
Curling goals: "Throw more consistent
draws, and nurture/grow the sport at the club level. It's a wonderful sport,
played by wonderful people of different ages and genders, and lots more
people than currently play would enjoy it tremendously."
Hobbies: Slow-pitch softball,
Macintosh computing, square dancing, golf
If he won a million dollars, he would:
"Retire sooner than currently planned."
Something unique: "I once caused a
U.S. ambassador to land on his face in the mud. Playing shortstop for an
embassy softball team in Medellin, Colombia, shortly after a rainstorm I
short-armed a throw to the ambassador, who was playing first base. He
stretched out full length to catch it and complete the putout, then firmly
suggested I not do that again."
