About Steve Hatlevoll:

Curls out of: Fargo-Moorhead Curling Club

Curling start: "I first started curling in a Friday night mixed league with my wife. As we were just dating at that point it was cheaper to take her to the curling club on Friday nights than to dinner and a movie. Having started in a mixed league we were hooked by the social side of curling first and both both also enjoy the competitive side as well."

What he enjoys most about curling: "The people. I know that everyone says it but curlers are a great bunch of people. Going to bonspiels and meeting people from all over is one of the best things about curling."

Curling family: "My wife, Lori Hatlevoll, and then my brother, his wife and two kids have all just started curling."

Other sports: Golf, fishing, NASCAR, football, channel-surfing

Curling goals: "My goal in curling is to help the sport to grow. I coach a team of first-time curlers in our junior league, and enjoy teaching them how fun the game of curling is and also teaching them about the sportsmanship that is involved with this sport."

Strengths: "One of my strengths in curling is the ability to keep my team looser, and to enjoy every game that we play."

Best curling experience: "My best experience in curling came at the 2004 U.S. Nationals in Grand Forks. My wife won on team North Dakota 2, and just watching and cheering for their team and meeting all the people that we there was a great experience for me. Also, meeting the McCormick team, who at the time were reigning world champions, and seeing how they interacted with everyone that they came into contact with. It showed me a lot about the sportsmanship of this game and how to be an ambassador for our sport."
