About Alex Leichter:

Curls out of:  Broomstones Curling Club

Curling start: "I was first introduced to curling when I was 8 years old by Michael Moran (family friend). This was my second year competing in the regional playdowns. Earlier this winter, I joined other members of my team in enrolling in the J.E.T program at Broomstones where we received advanced training in strategy and mechanics."

Curling family: "I have one younger sister, Leila, who is 14 and a serious curler. She competed in the Northeast Junior Curling Playdowns last year and this year."

Other sports: I have played team baseball, basketball, soccer, football and also enjoy tennis, sailing, golf, skiing, snowboarding

Curling goals: "I am really excited about making it to Junior Nationals, and I have since become aware of just how far my team can go. I would like to make it to the Worlds or even the Olympics sometime in the future."

Curling strengths: "I am a strong sweeper (my coach made arrangements so that I throw vice-skip rocks, but sweep for six stones as lead or second), I have a fairly consistent delivery with solid form, and I am an optimist (really important for team chemistry).

Hobbies: Sailing, skiing, snowboarding, golfing, playing/collecting Magic cards, playing guitar

Career goals: "Graphic design artist or some sort of professional athlete and make a pile of money."

Something unique: "I am home-schooled (I have been my entire life). I took the SAT college admission exam for the first time in my sophomore year. I have a GED (at age 16, plus I received perfect scores in 2 of 5 subjects; in the other three subjects I scored at least in the 92nd percentile) and I have completed three college classes (last semester I had a 4.0 GPA at Northern Essex Community College)."

"I am a Unitarian Universalist. I am an artist."

Travel: "I love to travel (though maybe not to Wisconsin in the winter); I have vacationed outside the U.S. on five separate instances that come to mind. I have been to England, Spain, France, Portugal, Saint Lucia and Saint Kitts, and Canada. I have traveled to many states, including Wisconsin, California, New Mexico, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Maine."
