Curls out of:
St. Paul Curling Club, St. Paul, Minn.
Nickname: Dick or Dr. Double
Curling start: "I started
curling when I moved here to live with my dad in fifth grade at the old Arden
Hills Club just before it closed and have been at the St. Paul Curling Club
since."
What he enjoys most about curling:
"The strategy and meeting and partying with other curlers from different
parts of the country and world."
Other sports: Softball,
basketball, fishing, tennis
Curling goals: "To win
Nationals and represent the U.S. at the World Championships or Olympics. I also
hope to watch and/or coach my daughter at the World Championships some day, if I
can get her interested in curling."
Training: "I just
practice as much as I can given my 60-hour-a-week job and family commitments. I
stay active and play a lot of different sports to stay in shape."
Curling strengths: "I
think strategy and reading the ice is something I have really developed over the
past several years and excel at for a person of my age. I also feel I am fairly
consistent player and can throw about any type of curling shot."
Favorite curling moment:
"Scoring an 8-ender in February 2003 for the first time in my life. Beating
my dad in two club championship finals. See Pete
Westberg's favorite memory for another classic."
Something unique: "I am a
personal injury attorney or as most of you call it an 'ambulance chaser.' I made
partner in my law firm after just four and a half years and was also the
youngest super lawyer named by Minnesota Law & Politics in 2000. I have
tried approximately 20 civil cases to a jury and after losing my first couple I
am about 16-2 with a $1.5 million verdict in October 2003. I also represented
two curling teams against the USCA when I believed there were major mistakes
made by the organization."
