About Nicole Joraanstad:

Curls out of: Madison Curling Club, Madison, Wis.

What I enjoy about curling: "The thing I most enjoy about curling is the places that you get to go and the great people you meet. My e-mail is constantly being used. I have friends from all over the world. Not too many people can say that. I have been so fortunate to meet so many great people. In 2000, I went to Europe twice, totally paid for. There aren't too many things you can do that let you go places like that. I also have found how close your teammates get to one another, and we have so much fun when we travel."

Training: "I curl every day, and have games twice a week. I play in tournaments at least two weekends a month, if not more."

Strengths in curling: "I think that my particular strength in curling is that I do really well under pressure, and I am really competitive. If you asked me to describe myself in one word, it would be competitive. I think that might be why I play skip. I also think I have a good grasp of good strategy. I feel I am a team player and know that the "25 percent rule" applies to every shot: everyone is involved in every shot, and that is why this game is so great."

Other favorite sports: "I also like to play slow- and fast-pitch softball in the summer. And I recently took up the sport of golf. I have really found that to be a lot of fun."

Hobbies: Working out at the gym, cooking and shopping

Something unique: "I think something that is a unique aspect about me is that I have several  curling-related tattoos. I have a tattoo of a curling stone with "USA" in the middle and "2000 Champs & 2001 Champs" below it. The second tattoo I got after winning the 2001 Nationals is this design on the middle of my lower back. I kind of have this deal that anytime I win a national championship, I am going to get a tattoo. This could get terminated at anytime; I might win too often."
