CURLING HIGHLIGHTS

PERSONAL FILE
Curls out of: Granite Curling Club, Seattle, Wash.

Curling start: "My mom read an article in the local newspaper and asked her two sisters to come try it. They liked it and joined a morning ladies league. Later their husbands joined them in the mixed league. I started volunteering at the club and tied wires in preparation for the cement slab pour. Later my sister and I joined an after-school league."

What she enjoys most about curling: "The camaraderie of being on a team and being with fellow curlers and their families. The personal challenge and satisfaction of completing a perfectly executed shot. This includes sweeping my teammates' rocks. The ability to compete at any level of play from social to international. Meeting people from all walks of life."

Curling family: "My mom, Marion, my sister, Nancy, and I curl together in the Wednesday Women's League. My dad, Al, curled until 2 1/2 years ago when he had to stop due to limitations caused by a severe stroke. I have cousins that curl."

Curling goals: "To do the best I can and compete in the Olympics and win a medal. To be a good club member."

Training regimen: "Curl in league play twice a week, practice once or twice a week, play in bonspiels, do calisthenics and walk."

Hobbies: "Collect curling pins and houses, volunteer activities, saving trees and open spaces."

Interests: "I enjoy traveling and have been to several countries in Europe. Completed walking tours in Catalunya, Spain, and Tuscany, Italy, with my husband, Ben. I enjoy being with my family and have learned a lot about health issues as people age. I've learned from my parents never to give up and that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I enjoy taking care of our geriatric cat, Brownie."

In her own words: "Enjoy life while you can because you never know when something will happen to change it."
