About Kyle Young:

Curls out of: Grand Forks Curling Club

Nickname: Tweedledumb

Curling start: "One day back in sixth grade, I think, my best friend Travis Kitchens asked me to come try curling. After a couple of weeks I was hooked. Travis, his brother Nathan, and I had a regular youth league team on Sundays the first couple of years and we started playing in a men's league the following year. Of course, it was very beneficial having around some great curlers to look up to and learn from like Garland Legacie, Scott Dalziel, and the Sampsons right in your home club.

Other sports: "I like anything that gets me outside in the summer. Time permitting I like to be on a softball team. I love to golf and I like to take my fishing pretty seriously, too. You have to coming from prime walleye country like Devils Lake. Of course, when fall comes around I have to be out hunting, deer mostly."

Curling goals: "Just like everyone else I'd love to have a medal around my neck one day. I think it would be awesome to curl at the Worlds in 2008. I think curling in the Engelstad Arena in front of hometown fans would be the absolute best. If neither of these ever come true, I really just want to be remembered. When I get old enough to have to give up the game I want someone talking about me like the way we do about the old guys with their pictures on the club's walls."

Curling strengths: "My sweeping is probably my biggest asset. I'm a big boy so when it comes down to it I can really drag a rock down the ice. I'm very competitive and always have the objective of winning in mind. Other than that, I think it's also a plus that I'm comfortable being asked to throw any type of shot at any time. I never back down from a challenging shot."

Favorite aspect of curling: "While curling has many aspects that I love, I'd have to say the thing that keeps me coming back for more is trying to make the one shot in every game that gives your team that unstoppable momentum. That shot so nice you can't help but smile all the way down the sheet and members of yours and the opposing team all tell you 'nice shot.'"

Hobbies: "I really love to play pool. Growing up my dad and my grandpa both kept pool tables in the basement so I played all the time."

Something unique: "I have one of the largest cap collections of anyone I've even heard about. I have somewhere between 60-70 baseball caps for sports teams, brand names, businesses, you name it. Currently only about 25 are up on display due to limited shelf space."
