CURLING HIGHLIGHTS
Other highlights include:
PERSONAL FILE
How I got started in curling: "In
1979, my brother and his friend wanted to play in the Serrano Junior Bonspiel in
Chisholm, Minn, but they needed a lead and a skip. They brought me to
the curling club and made me throw rocks until I could get one over the hog line
on the other end, and made me their lead. We picked up a skip from Hibbing
named Tom Stoneburner (now there's a curling name!) and finished second in the
second event. I have been curling ever since. I also was the only kid
in the bonspiel that swept with a push broom; everyone else used straw
brooms."
What I enjoy about curling: "I enjoy the competition and the team aspect of games. I also enjoy the social aspect, when both teams get together after the game over a drink and discuss the game and trade curling stories."
Other sports I enjoy: "I enjoy watching football and baseball, playing golf and fishing."
Curling experiences: "I have beaten my brother only one time, and that was in the Duluth Cash 'Spiel. My brother was playing with Andy Borland, the skip of my team now. I have lost to my dad curling only one time. I was playing with my brother and Andy Borland at the Grand Rapids Bonspiel, and my dad's team beat us in six ends. The roof of the Grand Rapids Curling Club fell down less than an hour later."
