Curls out of: Fairbanks Curling Club
Nickname: Kelz
Curling start:
"
"I was born in Canada, so I have been
exposed to curling for a long time. When we moved to Alaska I got involved on
the AK Junior Program. Liz, Jessica, and I got the opportunity to go to Juniors
in 99 and that started the competitiveness in me."
What she enjoys most about
curling: "I love sweeping. Effective sweeping is
such a crucial part of the game, it is the one thing that can be controlled.
Everyone has had shots, but good sweeping can make a hopeless shot into
something. My coach once told me after I had flashed two rocks, “you throw two
and sweep six, you’re not out this yet.”
Curling family:
"My mom and I had the great experience of
curling together at two national events. That was really neat. My dad and
brother are also curlers."
Other sports:
"I like to rollerblade everyday that is possible
in an Alaskan summer."
Career goals:
"I will be teaching high school History and Government by the Fall of 2007. I am
also pursuing my Masters in Education."
"This will be my first National Event
without Liz Ziegler. I am hoping to go back to playing with my mom at this years
Fairbanks International Bonspiel. I am really excited about Mixed Nationals
because both of my parents are coming up to watch for the week, my boyfriend is
learning more and more about curling, and Liz, her fiancé and baby boy are also
coming up!" |
