About Joy Pahl:

Curls out of: Green Bay (Wis.) Curling Club

Curling start: "I grew up in Mapleton, Minn. (the curling capital of southern Minnesota) and my father and grandparents were avid curlers so I knew the sport quite well; but it was actually my husband, Jim, who convinced me that we could have a lot of fun together curling. So, with his encouragement and instruction I started curling four years ago."

What she enjoys most about the sport: "It is a thinking-person's sport -- strategy in action. The social aspect is terrific, too."

Curling family: "My husband, Jim Pahl, curls. Our children are learning too."

Hobbies: Golf, running, baseball

Something unique: "I sing classical music."

Curling strengths: "Spending time with my children, husband, friends and family; playing golf, curling and singing."

Career goals: "Striving to be the best professor I can be."

Curling goals: "To compete nationally on a regular basis with our mixed team."
