CURLING HIGHLIGHTS
OTHER CURLING HIGHLIGHTS
PERSONAL FILE
How did you get involved in curling: "My mother got a job working at the Detroit Curling Club. After school she would pick my sister and I up and take us to work. We kept ourselves busy playing pool, watching TV, and, of course, throwing rocks. Everyone there had a hand in raising us."
What do you enjoy most about curling? "I enjoy the team camaraderie as well as the importance of individual performance, how an inch here and there can swing the game in any direction, and the fact that it's in winter when most people are sitting inside."
Do others in your family curl? "Right now my mom and grandma and grandpa Drouare are the curlers in the family."
Do you play other sports? "I used to play tennis and soccer, but as far as pickup games go, my favorite is basketball."
Curling strength: "Patience"
Curling goals: "To win and have as much fun as possible."
Training regimen: "I play in leagues twice a week and try to attend a bonspiel every weekend. I throw rocks about five times a week and do a bit of weightlifting."
Career goals: "I still don't have a clue as to where I'll be in 10 years, but I'd like to get a novel published somewhere along the way."
Hobbies: "Reading and going out with my friends. My favorite movie is 'A Clockwork Orange.' I enjoy traveling. I have only been overseas once, so I'm excited about going to Italy. When I do get to travel, it generally consists of me in a car, radio on, heading to Minnesota to curl with my men's team. Not terribly exotic, but I enjoy driving so it evens out."
Offbeat experience: "Every time I curl with Matt Carlson, Aaron "Gator" Gates and Bob Johansen."
