About Joel Larway:

Curls out of: Granite Curling Club, Seattle, Wash.

Nickname: Rascal (also known as Sparkie)

Curling highlights: "My curling highlights revolve around the people I've curled with. Curling has provided an opportunity for me to meet and curl with many people, most of whom I now call friends."

My inspiration: "My parents have always been a source of inspiration for me. Long-time curlers themselves, they know the roller coaster ride that we take every year."

The best part about curling: "Curling with my brother, Jason, is the best part of it all. Jason and I have spent many lonely nights at the curling club throwing rocks and setting up shots. Sometimes when I feel he needs a boost of confidence, I'll let him beat me in a one-on-one game. When we travel, we always try to have a good time. Often times Jason will get me to the point of laughing to tears. For example, we get in an elevator somewhere at a 'spiel and in the elevator are two towel-bearing, water-dripping parents and their little boy, who looks like he didn't even make an attempt to dry off and is shivering like he was in a cold Minnesota town. Jason turns to them and without cracking a smile says, "So, were you at the restaurant?" The seconds of silence that followed were priceless."

My curling goals: "My curling goals are simple. I want to start a curling club in Kuala Lumpur."
