About Joe Polo:

View childhood photos

Curls out of: Bemidji Curling Club

Curling start: "I started curling when I was 10 in the Bemidji Curling Club's Sunday Night Junior League with a friend.

Other Sports/Training: Mountain biking, basketball, lifting weights

Hobbies: Hunting, fishing, ultimate Frisbee, cricket, baseball, football, and playing cards

Nickname: "It depends on who you ask, but it's either Joe Cool, Rik Danger, Polo, or Bill"

What I enjoy about curling: "I like how the game can be turned around with one shot. Like a perfect freeze that hoses the other team and sets you up for a couple, or a runback double that bails you out of an end. Every shot is crucial."

Curling heroes: Scott Baird, Bob Fenson, Mark Haluptzok

Cartoon character that best represents his personality: Joe Cool, Snoopy's ultra-ego

Favorite athlete to watch: "Any good pitcher in baseball.

Other Olympic sport he'd like to try: Skeleton

Favorite motivational quote: "Don't take life too seriously -- you'll never get out alive."
