Curling start: "I first saw curling in Mapleton, Minn., when visiting my in-laws. This sparked my interest, and I joined the St. Paul Curling Club in 1988. I took a five-year hiatus when we lived in South Carolina, but I returned to curling in 1994."

What he enjoys most about the sport: "The camaraderie, strategy, and challenge of the game."

Curling family: "My wife, Joy Pahl, curls. Our children are learning too."

Hobbies: Hunting, golf, coaching baseball
