Curling start: "I married into a curling family in 1975. My wife's sister, Sharon Kozai, skipped two national champion teams, one of which included her mother, Betty Kozai. I had not heard of curling before my marriage, but being a good sport, I agreed to curl with my wife, Jaynie, and her parents. After a few years I was hooked and had a chance to curl on a men's teams that won the Nationals in 1989. On of my teammates at that National was Bard Nordlund. Our sons were born a month apart and played together as kids. We put together a father/son team when the boys were 12 years old. Now the boys are curling together on the Washington State team. My wife and I curled together on the national champion mixed team in Devils Lake, North Dakota, in 1999. We had a fantastic time at Devils Lake and look forward to an exciting event at Bismarck."
