About James Pierce:

Curls out of: Utica Curling Club, Utica, N.Y.

Curling start: "I was recruited by Marc DePerno, coordinator of RecNet at Sitrin Health Center. At first I wasn't that interested but learning more about the game and how it is played, I became very interested. I look at it as playing chess on ice. You always have to anticipate your opponent's next move."

What he enjoys most about curling: "The thing that I enjoy most is all of the friendly people involved with the sport. The great sportsmanship that surrounds the game."

Other sports: Wheelchair basketball, football and soccer

Curling goals: "To do well at the Worlds in Scotland and also to be able to represent the U.S. in the Paralympics in Italy."
