CURLING HIGHLIGHTS

PERSONAL FILE

Club: Granite Curling Club, Seattle, Wash.

In his own words: "As a kid, I spent many weekends at curling clubs in northern Alberta watching my dad 'bonspiel.' I didn't really start curling until my wife and I moved back to Edmonton in 1992. Lucky for me my wife likes the sport as much as I do. Curling seemed like a great sport to meet people, and a great way to spend time with my wife in the winter. There isn't much else to do as a couple in Edmonton in the winter. Unfortunately we moved to Utah a couple of years after we became 'hooked' on curling. Utah is not exactly a curling Mecca, however we helped to start a club and played a little at the Ice Sheet in Ogden. Curling on hockey ice may not be great, but it is better than nothing, and it sure makes you appreciate decent ice afterwards. We moved to Seattle three years ago and have been curling constantly ever since."

Other sports: "We spend the summers playing golf and softball. While outwardly there is virtually nothing similar about these two sports and curling, many of the skills needed to curl lend themselves very well to golf and softball."

Curling goals: "My main curling goals are to have fun and enjoy the game every time out on the ice, and to represent the USA at the World Curling Championships."
