CURLING HIGHLIGHTS
PERSONAL FILE
Curls out of: Coyotes Curling Club, Scottsdale, Ariz.
Curling start: "My folks asked me at age 13 if I wanted to join the teenage curling club in Ardsley, N.Y. I answered 'what is curling?' They described the game to me and like everyone who is hearing about curling for the first time I looked a little bewildered. Fortunately, as a new teenager at the time I was ready to join any club with the word 'teenage' in it."
Curling family: "I have really enjoyed introducing my son and daughter to the game. My 14-year-old son is a spare in our club's open league. Hopefully, we can get junior curling started in Arizona."
Staying involved: "After two years of curling at age 15 my folks moved to Los Angeles. My dad and I curled from 11:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Tuesday nights. The first college I attended was Bowling Green State University. Why? It had a curling rink on campus. Then it was back to California and more curling on late Tuesday nights with competitive curling in the old California Oregon Curling Association. For good ice, we would travel to Seattle fairly regularly. What wonderful hosts they are at the Granite Curling Club in Seattle. After moving to Arizona in 1993, I thought regular curling was over for me. Ten years later, we have a new curling club in the Arizona desert and some very talented curlers from all over North America as members. What could be better than warm winter weather and curling."
Curling goals: "I think every competitor has the same goal; it has the number '2006' in it."
