Curls out of:
Appleton Curling
Club, Appleton, Wis.
In his own words: "In my opinion,
curling is a total team sport. You can be the best "thrower" in the
world, but you still need teammates to call line and sweep the stone to make the
intended shot."
First started curling: "As most
curlers, I started because my parents curled. I started when I was 15 years old
at the Langley Curling Club in Langley, British Columbia - about 30 miles east
of Vancouver."
Family members who curl: "My
parents still curl – members of the 100 Mile Curling Club, 100 Mile House, BC."
Other favorite sports: Running and
officiating fast-pitch softball. "I have umpired at the NCAA Big Ten level
and I have umpired 11 ISC World Fast-Pitch Tournaments. As a spectator, I enjoy
all sports, including hockey, football, and basketball."
Most enjoyable aspect:
"The most enjoyable aspect about curling is that it can be played at any
level - social or at the Olympic level."
|
My curling strengths: "I believe my strengths in the game are
experience and knowing the subtleties of the game. Having played the game at a
high level in Canada, I have a good understanding of the strategy and mental
aspects."
Training regimen: "Currently, I am running for endurance, lifting
weights to improve upper body strength, and stretching. Because curling is a
"mechanical" sport - like golf - I believe if you are physically fit,
by the end of a two-game day, there should not be any breakdowns in form
(delivery), and you will not make mental mistakes because you are tired."
