CURLING HIGHLIGHTS
World Wheelchair Championships: 2005
National Wheelchair Championship: 2004 (champion), 2003 (runner-up)
Past president of the International Curling Fellowship of Rotary
PERSONAL FILE
Curls out of: Utica Curling Club
Hobbies: Golf, boating, gardening, reading, and playing not-very-good golf. "My wife and I enjoy traveling, but most of it has been related to curling for many years to officiate at national and international events, the most recent being the 2002 Olympics, the 2002 Worlds, and the 2004 U.S. Men's and Women's Nationals."
Curling start: "I tried curling at the insistence of a club member just to shut him up. Forty-three years later I am still curling. My wife also has curled for 43 years in self-defense. Our daughter curled as a junior."
In his own words: "My most gratifying experience in curling has been starting the wheelchair curling program in Utica, N.Y., in the spring of 2003 and coaching these wonderful people/athletes ever since. It has been a pleasure to help them develop their skills and grasp the strategy of the game. They now realize that it is like chess on ice with delivery skills added. Their ultimate goal, beyond this year's World Championship, is to be in the Paralympic Winter Games in 2006."
Curling goals: "To enlarge the wheelchair program and help those curlers achieve their maximum potential and enjoyment of the sport."
