Curls out of Rice Lake (Wis.) Curling Club.
"Have broom, will travel."
Began curling in Hibbing, Minn., in 1970. His first
skip was John Jankila. Bill returned to curling in 1977 in Fairbanks,
Alaska, and continued until he moved to Rice Lake in 2001. He was the ice
maker in Fairbanks from 1984-1998. He skipped the Alaska mixed team after
the 1994 U.S. Mixed Nationals in Rochester, N.Y.
In his own words: "The curling bug bites
hard. I have been involved in many sports as a coach (wrestling for 30 years,
also football and softball) and competitor. The sportsmanship, camaraderie and
universal language of curling has drawn me to the game."
Favorites: Curling in Canada and the Northern
Lights.
I can't live without: Goals.
Good luck charm: No. 121, and "My No. 1
cheerleader, Connie."
Hero: Vince Lombardi
Before every game: "I find it very
important to stretch and to use that time to focus on the game."
Training: "I typically curl a minimum of
three games per week and work out on the ice two to three times a week
emphasizing conditioning and drills."
