About Amanda McLean:

Curls out of: Duluth Curling Club

Nickname: Mikki

Something unique: During a competition, Amanda finished throwing her rocks and slipped and spit her gum out on the opponent's gripper. After that, he watched her pick it up to take it out of his gripper. After that he was telling people to watch out for her.

Curling start: "I got started in curling through school. I got a flyer sent home from school, and my great uncle encouraged me to try it. I joined the Duluth Junior Program after that."

What she loves most about curling: "The thing I enjoy most about curling besides the actual curling part would have to be the social aspect. Curling has allowed me to meet so many types of people. I don't think I have ever met an unfriendly curler. The curling world seems so small and everybody knows everybody. Curlers are like my second family."

Curling goals: "My goal in curling is to someday make it to the Olympics and/or Worlds. I want to work as hard as I can to meet these goals but I also want to make sure that curling stays fun. If curling isn't fun, it's not worth anything. But who can imagine curling not being fun?"

Other sports: "Volleyball is my second favorite sport after curling. I also played softball, but it did not make my list of favorite sports after I broke my nose."
