Junior playdown window dates changed

The time period in which the junior playdowns can take place has been altered. All playdowns for the U.S. Junior National Championships must take place between Dec. 23 and Jan. 1 to minimize school conflicts. The rationale for the change is as follows:

  • The USCA wants as many teams as possible playing and training together for a long as possible
  • No junior should miss playdowns because of school requirements
  • No junior participant should have to miss school for playdown purposes
  • A fixed window helps ensure no conflicts with other events leading to world play

A playdown window exemption will be granted by the Championships Committee if a state or region can show hardship and guarantee no students will miss school.  All exempt regions must use Dec. 16-17, 2006, as the alternate weekend. All exemptions are granted annually and requests must be submitted to the Championship Committee by Sept. 1, 2006.

Citizenship required for all world events

The USCA Board of Directors approved a policy at the spring board meeting in Chicago that limits participation in world playdown events (any event or playdown leading to world play) to U.S. citizens only. All participants must prove citizenship prior to the entry deadline for each event. The following events require U.S. citizenship:

  • World Universiade Trials

  • Wheelchair Tryouts

  • Men's and Women’s National Championship (formerly World Team Trials)

  • Senior National Championship

  • Junior National Championship

The following events require residency, but NOT U.S. citizenship:

  • U.S. Club National Championships

  • Mixed Nationals
